Andrew Rolfe was at the center of organizing a charity gala for the Ubuntu Fund. When they were planning for the dinner, the management of the Fund asserted that they were optimistic of going home with £600,000. To their surprise, over £603,000 was raised. This amount is equivalent to R10 million in South Africa. The Ubuntu Fund was established in 1999 with the objective of supporting vulnerable children in the society. With the passage of time, Jacob Lief, co-founder of the Fund, and other leaders recognized that the children could not concentrate on their studies. Upon carrying out a research, they realized that the families where these children came from were facing starvation and HIV/AIDs epidemic. The Fund decided to enhance their offing by offering the needy children with healthcare services and food.
During the event, Rolfe helped in bringing in a Xhosa choir that entertained the audience with their performances. He was also mandated with the duty of ensuring that all the 300 guests in attendance enjoyed their meals. When he talked to the audience, Jacob posited that children need huge resources for them to grow into adulthood. In addition, Sinesipho Rabidyani graced the occasion. As one of the speakers, Rabidyani shared her inspiring story of how in her formative years, her father’s drinking behavior made it difficult for her to study or do household chores. His mistreatment made Sinesipho to dread going home. However, she did well in her studies. This way, the Ubuntu Fund resolved to give her a scholarship. Moreover, they enrolled her for a mentorship program and provided her with the much-needed psychosocial support.
