In the last few years, the number of immigrants around the world has dramatically increased. This situation has been brought about by political instability in many countries. This way, different countries have come up with various ways of preventing the influx of immigrants into their borders. Local residents are also becoming hostile to the immigrants, as many believe that they deny them access to better lives.
The result has been the abuse of immigrant rights as spelt by the United Nations and other international bodies. In the move to curb these adverse effects on the immigrants, human, civil, and immigrant rights groups have been established to advocate for their rights.
The public, businesses, and charity organizations like Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund, a non-profit organization, have played a pivotal role in protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals. Below are some key migrant rights organizations in the United Sates:
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is one of the America’s largest human, civil, and migrant rights organizations. The non-profit body is dedicated to fighting for the rights of individuals suffering in the hands of law enforcers, corporations, and individuals. One of its pronounced campaigns was early this year when President Donald Trump banned the entry of Muslims in the United States.
The executive order, which was signed by the President, prohibited green card holders from entering the country. This situation resulted into thousands of immigrants from many Middle East countries being detained in American airports. In efforts to help these individuals, ACLU conducted an online campaign that helped them to raise over $24 million. The money was used to provide pro-bono services to the immigrants and buy them with basic needs.
Black Alliance for Just Immigration fights for the immigration rights of African Americans and black migrants. It achieves this objective through educating and engaging the communities.
The organization was established due the increased discrimination against the black community. Over the years, the entity has helped many individuals to enjoy their stay in the United States. Read more: Michael Larcey | Crunchbase and Michael Larcey | Twitter
The recent executive ban on Islamic immigrants saw the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) enhance its activities. Besides advocating for migrant rights, the organization fights against discrimination and civil rights violations targeting the Islamic communities.
The group has opened regional offices across the US to ensure that it responds quickly to violations in the areas. Another group specializing in fighting for the rights of Muslim communities is CUNY CLEAR. This organization fights for individuals targets by law enforcement. Over the years, they have ensured the freedom of thousands of falsely accused Muslims.
